PP-R Thermofusion Pipe and Fittings — Hot and Cold Water

Random polypropylene (PP-R) in a green line and a blue line, for hot and cold water inside buildings. It holds higher pressure than conventional plastic systems and is the system best suited to this job: more safety, longer service life, better quality of service. Pipe manufactured to ISO 15874-2, fittings to IRAM 13472.

The joint is made by thermofusion: pipe and fitting are heat-fused into a single piece of material, with no glue and no gasket. Threaded fittings carry a grooved male-thread metal insert, which grips teflon better and avoids isolation where the line couples to pipe of another material. Full catalog from 20 to 160 mm. The metal insert

Threaded parts carry a grooved male-thread metal insert. The grooves grip teflon better, and the metal avoids isolation at the point where the PP-R line couples to pipe of another material. That coupling is where a mixed installation leaks first, and it is the reason the insert is there.

What is thermofusion and why does it matter?

Pipe and fitting are heated and fused into each other: the joint becomes a single piece of material, not two pieces stuck together. There is no glue to degrade and no gasket to harden and seep. That is the main reason PP-R is the system specified for hot water in buildings — on a network that ends up inside a wall, the joint is the part nobody can inspect later.

What is the difference between PP-R and threaded PP?

The joint, and with it the job. PP-R is heat-fused and the installation is permanent: it belongs in in-wall distribution of hot and cold water. Threaded PP goes together and comes apart with a wrench, with no fusion tool and no cement, which is why it belongs on service connections and repairs where the line has to open again. Two different products from the same polypropylene family, not two versions of one.

What is the metal insert in the threaded fittings for?

For the point where the PP-R line couples to pipe of another material, to a valve, or to a fixture. The insert is a grooved male thread: the grooves grip teflon better and the metal avoids isolation at that coupling. Without it, the transition between materials is the first place a mixed installation leaks.

What is the difference between the green line and the blue line?

The color of the pipe. The material is the same random polypropylene to ISO 15874-2 and the pressure class is the same. In practice the color is how a crew keeps runs apart on site, and the convention changes from one market to the next. Tell us what your market runs and we set the green-to-blue split in the container.

Does this line suit a US plumbing wholesaler?

Usually not. This is metric goods to ISO 15874-2, sized in millimeters, and a US counter buys in inches to ASTM with NSF certification for potable water. Where this line does fit is Latin America and the Caribbean, where metric PP-R is the jobsite standard. For the US market the right conversation is PVC SCH 40 and the pressure line.

What is the minimum order?

Coverage is by the container, not the single stick. At 20, 25 and 32 mm the line is a running item; from 40 mm up, production is made to order in the run that ships with your container. If the pipe and fittings mix does not fill a container of its own, it combines with the rest of the water and drainage line. Send the SKU mix and destination and we put the configuration together.
